This orientation helps a practice that has purchased an Alexa CO₂ platform prepare its room, staff, and safety controls — CO₂ eyewear, plume evacuation, and fire precautions — before hands-on training on verified settings begins.

Congratulations on adding an Alexa CO₂ platform to your practice. This page is a new-owner orientation — it helps you prepare your room, your team, and your safety controls so you arrive at hands-on training ready to work. It is written for the practice owner and operator, not for patients.

The Alexa CO₂ family spans three specialty platforms: Aesthetic, Dental, and Veterinary. They share a 10,600 nm CO₂ wavelength and articulated-arm delivery, but the buyer, workflow, handpieces, and procedures differ by specialty. Train and operate on the platform configured for your practice.

One thing this guide deliberately does not contain is operating settings or treatment recipes.

What you now own

Your Alexa CO₂ is a fractional and surgical CO₂ platform built on a 10,600 nm CO₂ wavelength, delivered through an articulated arm for power consistency and beam quality. Depending on your specialty configuration, your system includes:

  • The Aesthetic platform — offered in Alexa Aesthetic (40W) and Alexa Pro MVP 7 (60W) configurations, with fractional scanning up to a 30 mm treatment area and a touchscreen interface with customizable scan shapes.
  • A handpiece suite — on the Aesthetic platform, fractional, surgical, and women’s-health (360° gynecological) applicators. Named modules referenced on the product page include Alexa Femme™ (intimate-wellness) and Alexa Follicle™ (non-ablative follicle stimulation).
  • The Dental platform — a 10,600 nm oral soft-tissue laser with articulated-arm delivery for soft-tissue procedures, including the specialty SleepTite™ snoring-support protocol where configuration and training allow.
  • The Veterinary platform — a 10,600 nm soft-tissue surgical laser with articulated-arm delivery and a guided protocol system.

The Aesthetic platform runs with zero consumables, and articulated-arm delivery reduces dependence on disposable fiber components on the soft-tissue platforms.


Before your first treatment day

Prepare the environment and the team before any patient or case.

  • Room and access. Establish a controlled treatment area with door signage and restricted access while the laser is in use. Cover or manage reflective surfaces near the beam path.
  • CO₂-appropriate eyewear for everyone present. Every person in the room — operator, assistants, and patient — needs eye protection rated for the CO₂ (10,600 nm) wavelength. Confirm the wavelength and optical density marked on each pair before use.
  • Smoke/plume evacuation, masks, and ventilation. CO₂ procedures generate surgical smoke (plume). Set up a local smoke evacuator with appropriate filtration positioned close to the treatment site, use procedure masks rated for surgical plume, and confirm adequate room ventilation. Do not rely on a standard surgical mask alone as plume protection.
  • Fire safety. CO₂ energy is an ignition source. Manage supplemental oxygen, keep alcohol-based prep and other flammables away from the field and allow prep to dry fully, use fire-appropriate drapes, and keep water or a suitable extinguisher accessible.
  • Key and interlock controls. Confirm the key is secured and controlled, and that door interlocks and the emergency stop function as documented before a case.
  • Laser Safety Officer. Designate a trained Laser Safety Officer responsible for safety controls, signage, eyewear, and staff compliance.

Getting to know the system

Spend time with the system unpowered and in a supervised setting before treating.

  • Delivery. Energy travels through the articulated arm to the handpiece or applicator. Handle the arm gently, respect its range of motion, and keep the optical path clean and unobstructed.
  • Handpieces and applicators. Learn to seat, exchange, and inspect each handpiece in your suite, and understand which applicator matches which procedure category for your specialty.
  • Interface. On the Aesthetic platform, the touchscreen interface supports customizable scan shapes; the Veterinary platform adds a guided protocol system. Learn to navigate, power up and down, and enter and exit standby safely.

Safe-operation fundamentals

These fundamentals apply on every case, regardless of specialty:

  • Eyewear rated for 10,600 nm on everyone in the room, every time.
  • Plume control with active evacuation, plume-rated masks, and ventilation.
  • Fire discipline around oxygen, alcohol, and drapes throughout the case.
  • Provider-directed patient and case selection. Suitability, contraindications, and — where relevant — skin-type considerations are clinical judgments made by the credentialed provider. On the soft-tissue platforms, suspicious lesions require evaluation before any procedure.
  • Tissue-interaction awareness (general). CO₂ energy at 10,600 nm is strongly absorbed by water in tissue; focused and defocused delivery produce different effects. Understanding this in principle is part of training — the specific technique and settings are not published here.

Treatment-day workflow (general sequence)

A typical case follows a general sequence. The exact steps and every setting come from your verified training, not this page.

  1. Confirm the room: signage, access control, eyewear for all present, plume evacuation running, fire hazards managed.
  2. Complete provider-directed patient/case assessment, consent, and site preparation.
  3. Power up the system and select the appropriate handpiece or applicator.
  4. Confirm settings from your verified documentation for the specific procedure.

  1. Perform the procedure within the provider’s scope, keeping the evacuator at the site and maintaining fire discipline.
  2. Return the system to standby, complete post-procedure care per provider direction, and document the case.

Care and maintenance (general)

Consistent care protects beam quality and uptime.

  • Optics and articulated-arm path. Keep optical surfaces and the arm path clean per the manufacturer’s guidance; a contaminated or misaligned path degrades output.
  • Handpieces and applicators. Inspect before each use, clean and reprocess per your documented protocol, and remove any component that appears damaged from service.
  • Output verification. Verify system output per manufacturer guidance so the delivered energy stays consistent with expectations.

Simple troubleshooting (general, non-clinical)

For everyday issues, check the basics before calling service:

  • System will not power up or stays locked out. Confirm mains power, the key position, the emergency stop, and that door interlocks are closed.
  • Beam or aiming issue. Confirm the correct handpiece is seated and the optical path is clean and unobstructed; stop and call service if uncertain.
  • Plume evacuator seems weak. Check that the filter is within its service life and the capture nozzle is positioned close to the site.

If a fault persists or the system behaves unexpectedly, stop using it and contact Pro 1 Laser service rather than attempting internal repairs.
