What this guide covers

Congratulations on adding the Pro 1 Pico to your clinic. This guide is written for the new owner and the operators who will run the platform day to day — not for patients. Its job is orientation: helping your team understand what you now own, how to prepare the room and the safety program, and what a general treatment day looks like.

One thing this page deliberately does not do is publish settings. What you now own

The Pro 1 Pico is a multi-regime Nd:YAG platform — one system that carries four distinct treatment engines rather than a single-purpose pigment laser:

  • 500 ps picosecond pigment — photoacoustic delivery for tattoo, PMU, and pigment work, with PTP dual-pulse energy for controlled, high-impact clearance.
  • PulseStack™ 750 collagen banking — rapid-fire pulse-stacking for glow, pores, fine lines, and recurring skin-quality maintenance.
  • Long-pulse 1064 nm vascular — photothermal heating for redness, telangiectasia, and selected veins.
  • PicoMatrix™ advanced remodeling — targeted remodeling for texture, pores, and acne scars.

Primary wavelengths are 1064 nm and 532 nm, with optional 595 nm and 660 nm handpieces available for selected tattoo colours. The platform is Health Canada licensed (Medical Device Licence number 114765) and FDA cleared, and it supports Fitzpatrick I–VI with appropriate parameters by a trained provider.

Before your first treatment day

A prepared room makes every session that follows smoother. Set the room up once, correctly, and make it repeatable.

  • Controlled-access treatment room. Designate the space as a laser-controlled area with a door that closes, clear signage, and no unnecessary through-traffic during sessions.
  • Wavelength-specific eyewear for everyone present. Every person in the room — operator, patient, and any assistant — must wear eye protection rated for the wavelengths in use. General laser eyewear is not a substitute for the correct optical density and wavelength range.
  • Key and interlock control. Keep the system key controlled and stored securely, and confirm the door interlock and emergency-stop are functional before the first patient.
  • A designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO). Assign a specific person to own the safety program — eyewear inventory, access control, signage, incident logging, and staff sign-off.
  • Skin and plume considerations. Plan for prepared, clean skin at the treatment site and for appropriate air handling or plume management for services that generate visible plume, such as carbon-peel work.

Getting to know the system

Spend time with the platform before your first patient. Familiarize your team with the console, the interface, and how each handpiece connects and is selected. The four engines described above are accessed from the same system, so knowing which handpiece and mode maps to which service category is the first operator skill to build.

A practical advantage worth noting for planning: the Pro 1 Pico is designed to run with zero per-pulse consumables — there are no cartridges or per-pulse disposables to reorder. Your recurring supplies are the general clinic items: wavelength-specific eyewear, cleaning materials, and any carbon-peel materials for that specific service.

Safe-operation fundamentals

These fundamentals are general professional standards of practice and apply to every session, regardless of the treatment:

  • Eyewear, every time. Confirm correct wavelength-specific protection on every person in the room before the system leaves standby.
  • Provider-directed patient selection and contraindication screening. Each patient should be assessed by a trained provider for suitability and contraindications before treatment. This is a clinical judgment, not a checklist you can shortcut.
  • Test spots as a principle. Use test spots and a documented tolerance approach where appropriate, rather than assuming a prior patient’s response applies to a new one.
  • Skin-type caution. The platform supports Fitzpatrick I–VI with appropriate parameters by a trained provider — the operative phrase being “appropriate parameters by a trained provider.” Deeper skin types warrant conservative, documented judgment.

Your treatment-day workflow

Below is a general sequence any laser service follows. It is a workflow, not a protocol — the clinical values inside each step come from your training.

  1. Consult — confirm the patient’s goals and expectations for the treatment area.

  2. Screen — provider-directed contraindication screening, skin-type assessment, and consent.

  3. Test spot — apply a test spot where appropriate and observe the response before proceeding.

  4. Treat — select the correct engine and handpiece for the service, with eyewear confirmed on everyone present.

  • Handpiece care. Handle handpieces gently, keep optical surfaces clean per your operating manual, and store them protected between uses.
  • Cleaning. Wipe down the console and contact surfaces between patients using clinic-approved cleaning practice.
  • Cooling. Keep vents and any cooling paths clear, and allow the system to operate within its intended thermal conditions.
  • Calibration and function checks. Confirm the system’s function and any calibration indicators as part of your routine before clinical use.

Simple troubleshooting

Most “it won’t work” moments are simple, non-clinical, and resolved in seconds. If the system will not fire, check:

  • The key switch is present and turned on.
  • The door interlock is engaged and the door is closed.
  • The emergency-stop is released.
  • Wavelength-specific eyewear and any handpiece sensors are correctly seated.
  • The system is out of standby and ready.

If the system still will not fire, or shows a fault you do not recognize, contact support rather than attempting any internal service. Do not open the enclosure.
